Frayn's Donkey's Years Receives West End Extension.

By John Nathan
27 May 2006

The West End revival of the Michael Frayn student reunion farce Donkeys’ Years has been extended to Sept. 2. The show had been originally booking until July 29.

Jeremy Sams’ production opened at the Comedy Theatre May 9 following previews from April 27.

The starry cast features Mark Addy, who is best known for the films “The Full Monty” and “The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas.” Addy also plays Bill Miller, the lead role in the American sitcom “Still Standing.”

Joining Addy in Donkey’s Years are Samantha Bond (The Rubenstein Kiss, A Woman of No Importance, Macbeth and Three Tall Women) James Dreyfus (the London production of The Producers) and David Haig whose credits include Mary Poppins, Journey’s End and Ayckbourn’s House and Garden.

The play, which won an Olivier Award with its first outing in 1976, is set in a university college to which six students have returned for a reunion dinner. Finding themselves locked in the building overnight the graduates relive their youth, reviving past friendships and feuds.

Set design for the revival is by Peter McKinstosh. Sams, who will also be directing the forthcoming West End revival of The Sound of Music, also helmed the National Theatre, West End and Broadways productions of Frayn’s Noises Off.

Frayn’s plays include Democracy and Copenhagen, both of which were also seen at the National Theatre, in the West End and on Broadway.

Donkey’s Years is produced by Sonia Friedman Productions, Tulbart Productions, Boyett/Ostar Productions, Michael Linnit, Lee Menzies and TEG Productions.
