Harold & Maude: The Musical to Make Midwest Premiere at Dayton's Human Race

By Kenneth Jones
06 Feb 2006

The Human Race Theatre Company and Victoria Theatre Association in Dayton, Ohio, will present Harold & Maude: The Musical in its 2006-07 season.

The Equity company celebrates 20 years of business in 2006.

The new Humana Loft Series season includes Moonlight & Magnolias by Ron Hutchinson, Big River: The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Roger Miller and William Hauptman, Doug Wright's I Am My Own Wife, Joseph Thalken and Tom Jones' Harold & Maude: The Musical and Painting Churches by Tina Howe. A special production of Take Me Out by Richard Greenberg will follow the subscription series in June 2007.

Harold & Maude, based on the cult hit film of the same name, marks the musical's Midwest premiere. It will play March 8–25, 2007. Jones penned The Fantasticks and 110 in the Shade, and Thalken composed the musical Was.

Based on the 1971 movie written by Colin Higgins, "this offbeat comedy tells the story of Harold, a young man obsessed with death until he meets Maude, a vivacious 79-year-old who flagrantly disregards the rules of modern society. As their friendship deepens, Harold discovers the beauty and wonder life has to offer in one of the most unconventional love stories of our time."

Marsha Hanna is artistic director of Human Race Theatre Company. Kevin Moors is executive director.
