Gary Beach to Attend Special “Producers” Benefit Screening in New Orleans

By Andrew Gans
13 Jan 2006

Gary Beach, the original Producers star who can currently be seen in the film musical of the same name, will attend a special benefit screening of the Mel Brooks film in New Orleans.

Beach’s former La Cage aux Folles castmate, Bryan Batt, has organized a screening to benefit the New Orleans Aids Task Force on Jan. 23 at the AMC Palace Theatre. The screening is set for 7 PM and a cocktail and hors d’oeuvres reception will follow.

Gary Beach won the Tony for his Producers performance and was also Tony nominated for his work in Disney's Beauty and the Beast and the recent revival of La Cage aux Folles. He has also appeared on Broadway in Doonesbury, The Moony Shapiro Songbook, Annie, Something’s Afoot and 1776.

In addition to La Cage Bryan Batt's theatre credits also include Lumiere in Beauty and the Beast; Monty, the disco DJ, in Saturday Night Fever; the Cat in the Hat in Seussical the Musical; Sir Percy in Frank Wildhorn's The Scarlet Pimpernel; as well as principal roles in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Starlight Express and Cats. The actor-singer-dancer also played Joe Gillis opposite Betty Buckley's Norma Desmond in Sunset Boulevard and has appeared Off-Broadway in Forbidden Broadway and Jeffrey.

"The Producers," directed and choreographed by Susan Stroman, was released by Universal Pictures and Columbia Pictures and produced by Mel Brooks and Jonathan Sanger. The film stars Nathan Lane as Max Bialystock and Matthew Broderick as Leo Bloom with Gary Beach as Roger De Bris, Roger Bart as Carmen Ghia, Uma Thurman as Ulla and Will Ferrell as Franz Liebkind. The motion picture also boasts cameo appearances by such theatre stars as Brent Barrett, Andrea Martin, Debra Monk, Jai Rodriguez, Richard Kind, Jonathan Freeman, Ruth Williamson, Michael McKean, Marilyn Sokol, Peter Bartlett and Ronn Carroll.

Tickets to the screening are priced $25 and are available for purchase by calling (504) 460-0921 or by visiting Hazelnut (5155 Magazine Street), Scriptura (5423 Magazine Street or Scriptura behind Lakeside Mall, corner of Severn and 17th Street). Tickets will also be available the night of the screening. For more information visit www.noaidstaskforce.org.

The AMC Palace Theatre is located at 1200 Elmwood Park Boulevard in New Orleans, LA.
