Seventh Annual "Plays and Playwrights" Play Anthology to Be Released Feb. 1

By Robert Simonson
04 Jan 2006

The 2006 edition of the annual play anthology "Plays and Playwrights" will be published by New York Theatre Experience on Feb. 1.

As always, the volume is edited by Martin Denton, who also selected its contents from the myriad of Off-Off-Broadway premieres he attends each year. Denton is the longtime editor of the theatre website nytheatre.com.

This year's scripts include:

  • The Top Ten People of the Millennium Sing Their Favorite Schubert Lieder by Alec Duffy
  • Burning The Old Man by Kelly McAllister
  • Self At Hand by Jack Hanley
  • The Expense of Spirit by Josh Fox
  • Paradise  by Glyn O'Malley
  • Yit, Ngay (One, Two)  by Michael Lew
  • Pulling the Lever by Rising Circle Theater Collective
  • The Position by Kevin Doyle
  • The Dirty Talk by Michael Puzzo
  • First Time Out of Bounds by P. Seth Bauer
  • Aurolac Blues by Saviana Stanescu
  • The Whore of Sheridan Square by Michael Baron

The series began in 2000 and is now seven books old. Denton—a former full time accountant from the Washington, D.C. area, who halted a successful career with the Marriott Hotel chain to cover theatre non stop—hatched the idea after he realized that many of the small, black box plays he saw, and admired, would likely never see the light of day again. What to do? Why, publish them of course, with the hope that other theatres would produce the work. Thus, an independent theatre imprint was born.

The book will retail $17 and will be available at bookstores and online at amazon.com and barnes&noble.com.  For more information contact info@nyte.org.
