Rocky Horror Show Returns to the West End Dec. 21

By Andrew Gans
21 Dec 2006

The Rocky Horror Show returns to the West End Dec. 21 for a limited holiday engagement at the Comedy Theatre.

Performances of the rock-n-roll musical will play through Jan. 27, 2007. The cast features David Bedella as Frank N Furter and Suzanne Shaw as Janet.

Christopher Luscombe directs the month-long run with choreography by Jenny Arnold. The creative team also includes Janet Bird (set design), Sue Blane (costume design), Nick Richings (lighting design), Rick Clarke (sound design) and Simon Beck (musical direction).

The Rocky Horror Show, according to press notes, "follows squeaky-clean sweethearts Brad and Janet on an adventure they'll never forget, with the scandalous Frank N Furter, rippling Rocky and vivacious Magenta." Song titles include "Sweet Transvestite," "Damn It Janet" and "Time Warp."

The Rocky Horror Show — with music, lyrics and book by Richard O'Brien — bowed in London in 1973. It played Broadway's Belasco Theatre from March 10, 1975 through April 5, 1975, with a cast led by Tim Curry, Jamie Donnelly and Meat Loaf. The 1975 film also cast Curry as Frank-N-Furter opposite Susan Sarandon's Janet Weiss and Barry Bostwick's Brad Majors. The Tony-nominated revival at New York's Circle in the Square Theatre boasted a cast that comprised Dick Cavett, Lea DeLaria, Jarrod Emick, Tom Hewitt, Joan Jett, Alice Ripley, Daphne Rubin Vega, Raúl Esparza, Sebastian LaCause and Kevin Cahoon.

The Comedy Theatre is located in London at 6 Panton Street. Tickets, priced £15-£42.50, are available by calling 0870 060 6637 or by visiting www.rockyhorror.co.uk.
